Ah, the part with your boyfriend truly sucks, but maybe he just had shit for brains. About the online thing, I never listen to that. It has almost developed into a running gag on social media. “Germans have no sense of humor, all work, no fun.” bla bla bla, you know it. Not to mention the countless jokes about Nazis and World War 2.

That was even worse to be honest. Back in school days, I’d be insulted by “children with a migration background”. Let’s be blatant here, I mean no harm and it’s past. Turks or Lebanese kids with a German passport. They’d start trouble, threaten to beat me up, insult my mother and whatnot. If I just open my mouth, I’d be the bad one, the “Nazi”. And as stupid as kids are, I believed it.

I think the same stuff still happens today. But online? I couldn’t care less what anyone thinks of me. I’m German, so what? The only people who use that in an argument aren’t even worth talking to.

I got my family. I got my friends. Anyone outside of that zone is pretty much not my concern.

But you’re still right. That’s just you and me. There are people who still suffer more than enough from all that.
