China might not only be taking over in terms of economy. With the political gridlock, we may expect the Chinese government to take bolder actions.
That's of course only speculative. We have managed over 80 years without another great war and I'd prefer if it stays that way. But with the US being predisposed, if China ever planned to truly occupy Taiwan by force, they couldn't ask for a better time. They could do what they want while a gridlocked USA is unable to intervene.
And that kind of tips the balance.
